Several studies revealed that STD is one of the determinants for the HIV transmission. The studies have shown that STD prevalence in the adult population is about 4 to 6 percent. In Rajasthan, considering 50 percent population, as calculated to be near about 3.43 million populations are sexually active. Out of this sexually active population 6 percent is the total case load for STI and RTI in the state of Rajasthan.

In Rajasthan minimum STI and RTI services are available in all PHCs, CHCs, first referral units (FRUs).The Designated STI/RTI clinics are available in all Medical Colleges and all the district hospitals. All TIs have established exclusive STI and RTI services and linkages with existing qualified service providers.

The issues of STI/RTI morbidity is duely addressed at designated STI/RTI clinics (situated at government health care facilities at district level and above) providing free standardized STI/RTI services. These clinics have been branded as “Suraksha Clinics” and provide sexual & reproductive health services.
